Frequently Asked Questions

How is The Healthy Weigh Now different than other diets?

Results!

Short term:
Men lose 3-5 lbs per week
Women lose 2-4 lbs per week

Long term:
Our clients are very successful at maintaining their weight loss due to the education provided by our well-trained coaches. We teach you new healthy eating habits from Day 1 which you will use for the rest of your life. We offer maintenance seminars (a regular maintenance support group) and continued coaching to help you maintain your healthy weight.

Convenience

Clients are typically not hungry on our plan (one of the benefits of Ketosis – see below). Clients do not need to exercise to achieve weight loss (see below).

Coaching

Our coaches have all personally completed the program. In fact, many of our coaches were former clients. They have a variety of training and expertise. This includes Certified Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Addictions counselors, Nutritionists, and Lifestyle counselors.

Medical supervision

Our program is supervised by Board Certified Cardiologists and nursing staff. They will discuss any potential medical concerns with your Primary Care Physician and/or other medical specialists, including the need to reduce medication as you lose weight.

Gluten-free food

There is growing concern and emerging research into the negative health effects of today’s genetically modified gluten. Our program screens dieters for gluten sensitivity (symptoms experienced when eating gluten-containing food). During the first month, dieters eat gluten-free food. Then, they may also chose from our non gluten-free list of products. Those who experience symptoms from gluten may resume the gluten-free products.

What is Ketosis?

Ketosis is the name of the physiological state induced by a low-carbohydrate, low-calorie diet. During this state, the body significantly burns stored fat. The benefits for dieters include substantial weight loss and appetite suppression. Some dieters even report increased energy, improved sleep, and clearer thinking.

Will I be hungry?

No.  With our low carbohydrate diet plan, you will enter a physiological state called ketosis in which the body breaks down fat stores.  During this state, one’s appetite is often suppressed.  Thus, you can lose weight without being hungry!

Do I need to exercise?

No.  Our plan does not rely on exercise.  For those who would like to exercise while on the program, we have the following recommendations: In week 1, reduce the intensity of workouts by 50%. In week 2, reduce the intensity by 25%. This allows one’s body to acclimate to ketosis and a reduced calorie diet. At times, it may be necessary to eat an extra THWN product within 30 minutes of exercise.

Do I need to take any drugs?

No.  Our plan simply involves dietary changes and weekly coaching visits.

Do I need to take supplements?

Our plan includes supplements such as Multivitamins, Ultra DHA Omega, and Calcium/Magnesium in order to maintain adequate nutrition while on the program.

How long will it take to lose the weight?

It depends on several factors such as the amount of weight you want to lose, one’s adherence to the diet and coaching method, gender, metabolism, and age.  On average, women lose 2-4 lbs and men lose 3-5 pounds of fat per week.  These results are typically 2-3 times greater than those of conventional low-calorie diets.

1. Very low-calorie diets. National Task Force on the Prevention and Treatment of Obesity, National Institutes of Health. JAMA. Aug 25 1993;270(8):967-974.
2. Wadden TA. Treatment of obesity by moderate and severe caloric restriction. Results of clinical research trials. Ann Intern Med. Oct 1 1993;119(7 Pt 2):688-693

Is it safe to lose weight quickly?

Yes. Our plan is medically supervised by Board Certified Cardiologists.  We consider your personal medical history when developing a weight loss plan.

Will I regain the weight quickly after the diet?

Weight gain after a weight loss program is not based on how fast it was lost.  Instead, it is typically due to non-adherence with the recommended method of weight maintenance.  Our weekly coaching sessions and maintenance seminars will teach you how to eat after you have completed the diet so that you can keep the weight off for good!

Is the diet safe for diabetics?

Yes, we work closely with your Primary Care Physician, Endocrinologist, or other providers to safely adjust diabetic medications during weight loss. In fact, many of our diabetic patients are able to drastically reduce the amount of insulin or oral medication they take, sometimes even stopping completely.

Is the diet safe for those with high blood pressure?

Yes, we work closely with your Primary Care Physician and other providers to safely adjust blood pressure medication during weight loss. Many of our hypertensive patients are able to reduce their medication regimens or even stop medication entirely with weight loss.

Is the diet safe for everyone?

The diet is safe for nearly everyone. Before beginning the plan, a Health Profile form must be completed.  One of our Board Certified Cardiologists will contact your Primary Care Physician or other medical specialist if there are any medical concerns regarding your participation. Below are some medical contraindications to the program:

– Recent heart attack (MI), Stroke (CVA), or Mini stroke (TIA)
– Poorly controlled congestive heart failure
– Severe liver or kidney disease (unless approved by Physician)
– Use of the medication Lithium
– Uncontrolled eating disorders
– Celiac disease (this is different than gluten intolerance)
